Aske: A Viking Age Great Power Center

Visit Aska village, about 6 km outside Vadstena, in the summer of 2026 and experience a guided tour with a view of Vadstena and Lake Vättern! Hear about very special jewellery and weapon grave finds, archaeological excavations and experience the Ash Mound, which in the 2000s has been noticed as a house plateau for a Viking hall of over 600 sqm! The remarkable grave finds have made archaeologists curious about how people lived and lived in Aska during the Viking Age. We visit the now closed excavation site on the mound. Here were found "gold amulets" in 2020 and 2021! Aska was probably the centre of power in western Östergötland during the Vendel and Viking Ages. Tall tales from the past have lived on; The ash pile was not allowed to be molested and has been left - untouched. Guided tours take place at 14.30 on Sundays and Tuesdays between 28 June and 9 Aug.
