Culture evening: Tristan and Isolde
World premiere at the Abbey Museum of the musical theatre Tristan and Isolde – a poetic and dramatic interpretation of one of the strongest love stories of the Middle Ages.
Sancta Birgitta Monastery Museum presents this month's cultural evening!
In this powerful and evocative performance, the story of Tristan and Isolde is brought to life – one of the most gripping love stories of the Middle Ages. The performance is a poetic and dramatic interpretation of the classic story, where the audience is led through King Mark's memories. In his chamber, Tristan and Isolde come forward to retell their story – from childhood and battle to healing and forbidden love, from the intrigues of the court to their escape into the forest and the fateful end. A musical performance that touches deeply – and stays with you long after the last note has faded out.
The script and direction are created by Berättaren – sagor i tid & otid, with the oral storytelling tradition as a basis. The music is shaped by Starur, where medieval songs and original compositions are woven together into an atmospheric landscape of song, harp and rhythm.
On stage:
King Mark – Jean-Pierre Salkvist
Tristan – Kajsa Franke
Isolde – Saga Björling
Time: about 75 minutes. The performance takes place in the Dormitorium – stairs only, no elevator. The event is given during the Year of Literature in Vadstena 2026. Pre-booking via Salver.se.
