Price and registration
Adult 160 SEK, children/youth 8–17 years 50 SEK, including entrance.Once upon a time, there was a royal palace on the shore of Lake Vättern in western Östergötland... In this tour, we tell you about Vadstena before the monastery period, one of the district's mighty farms with magnates and stone churches. Here, Birger Jarl's son King Valdemar had a magnificent residence built and created a centre of power for political meetings and festivities in the 1260s, with magnificent halls and a pleasure garden. Around courtly court life, chivalry and love affairs flourished, while Sweden slowly but surely began to form into a nation-state.
Immerse yourself in the history of the High Middle Ages and hear the stories of the rulers of the Bjälbo dynasty and their palace in Vadstena, one of Sweden's oldest preserved buildings.
