Viola and her twin brother Sebastian are shipwrecked during a storm in the Adriatic Sea. Sebastian is believed to drown, but Viola survives and washes up on a beach in Illyria. As the only woman in an unknown land, she is forced to dress up as a man. Dressed as her brother, she is employed as a page by Duke Orsino, with whom she soon falls secretly in love. The Duke, who in turn is in love with Countess Olivia, sends Viola with love messages to the latter, whereupon Olivia falls instantly in love with the young "page". Things soon get even more complicated when Sebastian – completely alive – turns up in the city and is mistaken for Viola. At the same time, another story of a more comical nature is going on: the intrigues at Olivia's court. Olivia's booze-steaming uncle, Tobias Rap, and his supper-mate, Andreas Blek af Nosen, together with the chambermaid Maria, are plotting to bring down Olivia's snobbish butler Malvolio, a strife so self-possessed that "it is a creed that as soon as you see him, you fall in love with him". With false love letters, Malvolio is tricked into believing that Countess Olivia is in love with him and that he must therefore constantly smile – something she cannot stand – and wear yellow socks – a colour she hates. Soon the worlds are mixed up when the improbably cowardly Andreas Blek af Nosen gets the idea that he is going to challenge the Duke's page, Viola, to a duel... Through all these intrigues, the drama's companion, the jester Feste, moves as comfortably in the duke's fine salons as among the drunks on the park bench and fills the performance with his music and his witty turns of words. Love, suspense and humor in a blissful mix – What you want – Price 130 - 480 SEK Performed 3 July - 8 August 2027 Duration approx. 3 hours incl. intermission
