Viewing: A simple history of care

Evenemang Guidning Kulturarv

The monastery museum's tour of Vadstena as a health care town, from the monastery's pastoral care and the warriors' house of the great power era to later psychiatry.

Price and registration

Adult 160 SEK, children/youth 8–17 years 50 SEK, including entrance.
Description

Join us on an exciting health history walk in the monastery area! We tell about the view of people and care throughout history, and about the medical care that has been in our own museum building for hundreds of years: the monastery's infirmaries, the warriors' house of the great power era and then Vadstena hospital, later Birgitta's hospital, one of the country's largest mental hospitals well into the 1900s.

The walk is mostly outdoors (clothes according to the weather!) where cultural monuments such as Trefaldighetsgården, Mårten Skinnare's house and the Great Fool's House are reminiscent of the time when Vadstena was one of Sweden's most important care towns.

Pre-registration for info@klostermuseum.se or pre-purchase via Salver.se. You can also buy a ticket at our reception, subject to availability.

The tour lasts about 50 minutes.
